International
Conference
on the NewWorld Information and
Communication Order:Histories and Legacies
June 11 - 12, 2024
University of Toronto
Sidney Smith Hall SS2098 100 St. George Street
Join us this June as we bring together an international and diverse group of scholars to exchange research on the histories and legacies of the New World Information and Communication Order (NWICO) - the first global movement to decolonize information in history.
The NWICO was a Global South-led intervention launched in 1978 to challenge an information ecosystem that marginalized communities in the Global South.
By identifying the media as a site of struggle for human liberation and demanding equal access to information technologies, NWICO expanded the phenomenon of decolonization to create new anti-racist norms and international dialogue in the fields of journalism, information, and communications.
